Events
Great news received from the Village Hall "All Welcome Group". Two stunning events are planned for Spring 2009:
The Opera Dudes to appear at Thurton & Ashby Village Hall
A fantastic musical St Valentine's Day treat is in store on Saturday, February 14th 2009 when the nationally acclaimed
Opera Dudes will be performing at the Village Hall. The Opera Dudes, a very talented
and entertaining duo whose shows sell-out whenever and where-ever they perform, will be delighting their St Valentine's audience with great music and song ranging from Puccini
to Elvis Presley via Rachmaninov and Donald Duck!
The Village Hall's All Welcome Group, who are staging this exciting show in conjunction
with Creative Arts East, tell us that
during the course of the evening The Opera Dudes will have us singing along, our feet tapping,
our sides splitting and our hearts' breaking.
What a great night out this show promises to be!
Tickets for this show are sure to be in great demand so contact us now by email or
phone Tricia on 480695 or Jan on 480211 to make your advanced reservation for this very special and memorable musical event.
Eastern Angles Theatre Company to make return visit to Thurton & Ashby Village Hall
Eastern Angles made such an impact when they appeared at the Village Hall last year that
The All Welcome Group made certain to invite them back again in 2009 and it seems that Eastern Angles were just as anxious to
return and perform again before such a responsive and appreciative audience.
Return to Akenfield is confirmed for Friday, March 27th 2009 at the Village Hall.
The story of Akenfield, a classic study of rural life in East Anglia was first published in the late sixties and was soon
famously adapted by Sir Peter Hall and made into a stunning film. Forty years later the East Anglian villages featured
in the original story have been revisited and a dramatic and yet poignant stage play has been created to reflect the
changes of modern rural life.
Anyone interested in East Anglian life past and present will be thrilled by this new play and the Eastern Angles Theatre
Company will give a wonderful performance ... of that there is no doubt. Again, we fully expect this event to be a sellout
so please reserve your tickets now. Don't leave booking until after Christmas and run the risk of being disappointed.
Email or contact Tricia on 480695 or Jan on 480211.
Jumble Sale
A fundraiser for the Thurton Play Area Re-Development Project. The first Jumble Sale
raised over £160.
The kids were so pleased with the results from this that they have decided to hold another
on Saturday, November 22nd, again at the Village Hall from 12noon - 2pm.
If you can help by donating any items for the jumble sale,
bake cakes, donate raffle prizes etc, please contact Rebecca Frost,
secretary of the committee on 480447 or Karen Bonsell on 480993.
Writer's Circle Meeting
Thursday, 20th November 2008 at the George and Dragon from 7pm
Calling East Anglian writers, readers, publishers!
This is for all people who love to write, whether you're a novice or an experienced author
- the idea is to be amongst other writers, to learn from or to nurture others.
Publishers and readers are also welcome! You don't have to write to love books.
Open to anyone from age 15 to 150!
If you like, bring along your short stories, or poetry, or chapters of your book to read to us.
Definitely bring a notepad and pen.
The meetings are free! Some of us will be there from around an hour or so earlier than the meeting
time, for food and cameraderie. Find out more...
Car Wash
Because of the colder weather the next car wash will be held in the Spring.
Many thanks to all the people who supported the Car Wash during the year.
We look forward to the Spring 2009 Car Wash and to our first customer who has
pre-booked for her Horse Box Lorry to be scrubbed!
We shall need plenty of long-handled brooms, scrub brushes .... and the cameras!
Toddler Group
The Toddler Group will be running fortnightly Thursday afternoons from 1:15 to 3 pm.
