Play Area Re-development Project (PARP)
Thank you to those who supported the recent PARP Car Wash. Special thanks to the lads of the Thurton branch of the 1st Loddon Scouts who, under the supervision of Scout Leader Brian Webb and parent Dave Smith, helped with the PARP car-wash, undertook a litter pick of the playing field and Ashby Road area, cut up boughs of a tree that had fallen across the village hall car-park and tidily cleared away all the debris too! The Thurton Scouts were working towards their Community Service Award Badges and we were very impressed by their enthusiasm, hard work and commitment to getting the tasks finished. Using their own initiative a small group of the local scouts also made a start to extend the bike track and berms at the far end of the playing field. Well done to the PARP team and the Thurton Scouts!
The next fund-raiser for the Play Area Re-development Project is on Sunday 12th September. The Charity Prize Auction, under the capable hammer of auctioneer Neville Whiting, will be followed by the Keith Wells Memorial Rounders Match between Ashby St Mary & Thurton. There will be adult and junior matches.
April Stowers is the contact for the Ashby teams and Sarah Heatley will be recruiting players for the Thurton Teams so please let them know
if you would like to take part or contact Karen Bonsell on 480993 for further details of this fun afternoon. Please watch the village notice boards for updated information about the day's event.
To date, the rounders match honours between Ashby St Mary and Thurton are even so there is everything to play for. Please support your village team and in doing so we may take the Play and Community Area fund-raising total nearer the £3000.00 mark!
